How do I test if my mouse is working?

Move your cursor into the test zone above and click each button. The button lights up and its counter increments the moment the click registers. If a button never lights up — even when you physically click it — that button is faulty. Scroll the wheel inside the zone to verify the scroll delta changes; if it stays flat, the wheel encoder or driver is the problem.

Which mouse buttons does this tester support?

It covers the standard five: left (button 0), middle / wheel click (button 1), right (button 2), and the two side buttons usually mapped to back (3) and forward (4). Most productivity and gaming mice expose at least these. Extra buttons beyond button 4 depend on your mouse's driver and may report as higher button indices that browsers don't yet surface.

Why does my right-click open the context menu elsewhere but not here?

Inside the test zone we suppress the browser's default context menu so you can test right-click without the menu popping up and stealing focus. Outside the zone, your browser behaves normally. This is intentional — it lets you spam right-clicks to confirm the switch is registering every time.

Can this test detect mouse double-click issues?

Accepted Answer

Yes. If a single physical click bumps the counter by two (or more), your mouse switch is double-firing — the classic 'mouse chatter' fault caused by worn Omron switches. Watch the counter as you click deliberately and slowly; a healthy mouse adds exactly one per click.

Does the mouse tester work on Mac and Windows?

Yes. It relies on the standard browser mouse events (mousedown, mouseup, wheel, mousemove) that every modern operating system exposes. On macOS, make sure browser pointer events aren't being intercepted by system gestures, and that side buttons are mapped to standard back/forward rather than custom actions.

No. Every click, scroll and movement is processed locally in your browser. We don't log coordinates, click counts or timing to any server. It's safe to test even sensitive input devices.
