Terms of Service

The rules of the road for using TestMyKey. The short version: it is free, it is provided as-is, and you use it at your own risk.

Free, as-is, no warranty

The Service is free of charge and provided without warranty of any kind.

Don't build keyloggers

Use the tester for your own keyboard. Do not use it to develop tools that capture other people's keystrokes.

Liability is limited

Our liability for any claim is capped at what you paid us — zero.

Effective date: April 1, 2025

1. Acceptance of terms

By accessing or using TestMyKey (the "Service") at https://testmykey.com, you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service ("Terms"). If you do not agree to these Terms, you may not access or use the Service.

These Terms form a legally binding agreement between you and TestMyKey. If you are using the Service on behalf of an organisation, you represent that you have authority to bind that organisation to these Terms.

2. Description of the Service

The Service is a free, web-based keyboard testing tool and a collection of related educational guides. The tester processes keystrokes locally in your browser and does not transmit keystroke data to any server.

We may modify, suspend, or discontinue the Service, in whole or in part, at any time without notice. We will not be liable to you or any third party for any such modification, suspension, or discontinuance.

3. Acceptable use

You agree to use the Service only for lawful purposes and in a manner that does not infringe the rights of, restrict, or inhibit anyone else's use and enjoyment of the Service. Prohibited conduct includes:

Attempting to gain unauthorised access to the Service, its servers, or any related systems or networks.

Using the Service to test, develop, or refine any tool intended to capture keystrokes from other users without their consent. The Service is for testing your own keyboard, not for building keyloggers.

Interfering with the proper functioning of the Service, including introducing viruses, trojans, or other malicious code, or attempting to overload, crash, or reverse-engineer the Service.

Scraping, mirroring, or republishing substantial portions of the Service's content without our written permission. Brief quotations with attribution are fine.

Using the Service in any way that violates applicable local, national, or international law.

4. Intellectual property

The Service — including its design, text, graphics, code, and the TestMyKey name and logo — is owned by us and protected by copyright, trademark, and other intellectual property laws.

You may not reproduce, distribute, modify, create derivative works of, publicly display, or commercially exploit any part of the Service without our prior written consent, except as permitted by applicable fair-use provisions.

The keyboard layout data, switch specifications, and other technical reference material on the Service are factual and provided for educational use. You are free to use the underlying facts, but not our specific presentation of them, in your own work.

5. Disclaimer of warranties

The Service is provided on an 'as is' and 'as available' basis. You use it at your own risk. To the maximum extent permitted by law, we disclaim all warranties, whether express or implied, including implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.

We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, secure, or accurate. We do not warrant that any defect will be corrected. The tester is a diagnostic aid, not a certified instrument; do not rely on it as the sole basis for safety-critical or financial decisions.

Any guidance provided in our articles is general in nature and may not apply to your specific keyboard, operating system, or situation. Follow manufacturer guidance where it conflicts with ours.

6. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, in no event shall TestMyKey, its operators, or contributors be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of profits or revenues, arising out of or related to your use of the Service.

Our total aggregate liability for any claim arising out of or relating to the Service shall not exceed the amount you paid us to use the Service, which is zero, since the Service is provided free of charge.

Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion or limitation of certain damages, so the above limitations may not apply to you.

7. Third-party links and content

The Service may contain links to third-party websites or reference third-party products (such as specific keyboard models or switches). We do not control and are not responsible for the content, accuracy, or practices of any third-party site or product. You access third-party content at your own risk.

Mention of a third-party product or brand is for identification purposes only and does not imply endorsement, sponsorship, or affiliation unless explicitly stated.

8. User-submitted content

If you submit content to the Service through the contact form or by any other means (such as suggesting a guide topic), you grant us a non-exclusive, royalty-free, worldwide, perpetual licence to use, reproduce, and display that content for the purpose of operating and improving the Service.

You represent that you own or have the right to submit the content you provide, and that it does not violate the rights of any third party.

9. Governing law

These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with applicable international conventions on electronic commerce, without regard to conflict-of-law principles. You agree to submit to the personal jurisdiction of the courts located in the jurisdiction in which the Service is operated, for any actions arising out of or relating to these Terms or the Service.

If any provision of these Terms is found to be unenforceable, the remaining provisions will continue in full force and effect.

10. Changes to these Terms

We may revise these Terms from time to time. When we do, we will update the 'effective date' at the top of this page. Your continued use of the Service after any change constitutes your acceptance of the revised Terms.

If we make material changes that substantially affect your rights, we will display a prominent notice on the home page for at least 30 days before the change takes effect.

11. Termination

We may terminate or suspend your access to the Service at any time, without notice, for any reason, including if we believe you have violated these Terms.

Because the Service requires no account, 'termination' means blocking your IP address or browser from accessing the site. You may stop using the Service at any time; no formal cancellation is required.

12. Contact

If you have questions about these Terms, please contact us at hello@testmykey.com or through our contact page at https://testmykey.com/contact.
