Privacy Policy
The short version: the keyboard tester processes every keystroke locally and transmits nothing. The longer version is below.
The keyboard tester is a client-side JavaScript application. Every key you press is processed by the browser and discarded. Nothing is uploaded, logged on a server, or stored.
There is no account system, no login, and no server-side store of your testing activity. We cannot share what we do not have.
We set a single cookie to remember your theme preference (light or dark). No analytics cookies, no advertising cookies, no third-party trackers.
Effective date: April 1, 2025
1. Overview
This privacy policy explains how TestMyKey ("we", "us", "our") handles information when you use our website at https://testmykey.com (the "Service"). The Service is a free, in-browser keyboard tester and a collection of related guides.
Our guiding principle is simple: the less data we collect, the less data can be misused, leaked, or stolen. We have designed the Service around that principle.
2. How the keyboard tester handles your input
When you use the keyboard tester, every key you press is captured by JavaScript running in your browser tab. The browser sends us no information about which keys you pressed, in what order, or how often. We do not log keystrokes, we do not transmit keystrokes, and we do not store keystrokes.
This means you can safely use the tester to verify keyboards you intend to use for passwords, banking, or any other sensitive purpose. There is no server-side component to the testing logic.
The only data that leaves your device when you use the tester is the standard HTTP request for the page itself (HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and image assets). This is the same data any website request sends.
3. Information you provide via the contact form
If you submit our contact form, we receive the name, email address, and message you provide. We use this information solely to reply to your message. We do not add you to a marketing list, we do not sell or rent your details, and we do not use them for any purpose other than responding to your inquiry.
Contact form submissions are retained for as long as needed to resolve your inquiry and for up to 90 days afterwards for quality assurance, then permanently deleted. If you ask us to delete your submission earlier, write to hello@testmykey.com and we will action it within 30 days.
5. Third-party services
The Service is hosted on a standard web hosting provider that serves the static HTML, CSS, and JavaScript files. The hosting provider may log standard request metadata (IP address, request time, user agent) for the purposes of security monitoring and abuse prevention. These logs are retained for a maximum of 14 days and are not associated with your keystroke activity, because we do not record keystroke activity.
We do not embed third-party scripts such as Google Analytics, Facebook Pixel, advertising networks, chat widgets, or social media embeds. The Service has no external script dependencies that track you.
6. Children's privacy
The Service is intended for general audiences and does not knowingly collect personal information from children under the age of 13. Because we do not maintain user accounts and do not collect personal information beyond what you voluntarily submit through the contact form, we have no specific protections aimed at children — but we also have no way to gather data from them.
If you believe a child has submitted personal information to us through the contact form, please contact us at hello@testmykey.com and we will delete it.
7. Your rights
If you are located in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or California, you have certain rights regarding your personal data, including the right to access, correct, or delete the personal data we hold about you.
Because we do not maintain user accounts, the only personal data we are likely to hold about you is the contents of a contact form submission. To exercise any of these rights, email hello@testmykey.com with the email address you used in your submission. We will respond within 30 days.
8. Security
We take reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect the limited data we hold. The website is served over HTTPS. Access to server logs and contact form submissions is restricted to a small number of authorised team members.
No method of transmission or storage is completely secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security, but we minimise what we hold so that the impact of any breach is correspondingly small.
9. Changes to this policy
We may update this privacy policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the 'effective date' at the top of this page. If we make material changes — particularly changes that affect what data we collect or how we use it — we will display a prominent notice on the home page for at least 30 days.
We encourage you to review this page periodically to stay informed about how we handle information.
10. Contacting us
If you have any questions about this privacy policy or how we handle information, please contact us at hello@testmykey.com or through our contact page at https://testmykey.com/contact.
