How to Test Your Corsair Keyboard

Open Corsair iCUE and check for firmware updates under Settings → Device — the K70 RGB PRO had a double-input bug in firmware 4.13.x that was patched in 5.x.

Disable any macro profiles or remapped keys in iCUE (especially the G1–G6 keys on the K95 Platinum), then close the app entirely. iCUE running in the background can intercept keystrokes.

If your K70 supports AXON 8000Hz polling, set it to 1000Hz in iCUE before testing — some USB controllers choke at 8000Hz and drop inputs that look like dead keys.

Press every key in our tester, paying extra attention to the media control cluster (volume rocker, mute, play/pause) which is the most common failure point on Corsair keyboards.

Hold 6–10 keys at once to verify NKRO over USB. If only certain key combinations fail, that's a USB HID 6KRO fallback — enable 'BIOS mode' (Fn+F1 on most K70 models) to test compatibility mode.
Common Corsair Issues & Fixes
Double-input after iCUE firmware update
The K70 RGB PRO and K65 PRO MINI had a regression in iCUE firmware 4.13.x where every keypress registered twice. Open our tester — if a single tap shows two green flashes, you have the bug. Fix: open iCUE → Settings → Device → Firmware Update and force-flash 5.x or newer. If iCUE refuses to update, use the standalone Corsair Firmware Update Restoration Tool from the support site.
Media key wear / volume rocker dead zones
The volume rocker on the K70 and K95 Platinum develops dead zones after 12–18 months because the encoder's lubricant dries out. Test by slowly rotating the wheel up and down in our tester — if the volume-up keystroke drops out at certain angles, the encoder is failing. Replacement requires soldering; a temporary fix is spraying DeoxIT D5 contact cleaner into the encoder housing.
Keycap shine after 6–12 months
Corsair's stock ABS keycaps develop a glossy 'shine' on frequently pressed keys (WASD, space, shift) as the surface texture wears off. The keyboard is fully functional — this is purely cosmetic. The fix is replacing the keycaps with a PBT set (Corsair sells a PBT upgrade kit, or third-party sets from Glorious or HyperX work). Test that all keys still register normally in our tool before spending money on keycaps.
USB passthrough port not working
On the K70 RGB and K95 Platinum, the USB passthrough port is a separate USB endpoint that needs both the keyboard cable's USB connectors plugged into the PC (the keyboard uses a 2-port USB pigtail). If the passthrough is dead but the keyboard works, the secondary cable is unplugged or the second USB port on your PC is disabled in BIOS. Re-test the keyboard itself in our tool — passthrough failure does not affect key registration.
